Saturday, 20. June 2009 : First sailing week with worst weather ever
From Arholma, we crossed over to Rödhamn south of Mariehamn. The trip was rough with seas built during a few days hard northwesterly wind. Sir Francis probably made her fastest trip ever with 7,2 knots average speed from port to port. Unfortunately, the ship’s dog didn’t feel too well, trying hard to hang on to the steering pidestal with her paws. Couldn’d make out if she was pale in her face, but we believe she was a bit seasick.
Anyway, all three of us were happy when the shaking was over and we had tied up in the pool of Rödhamn.

Like on our previous visits here, we were warmly welcomed by Annette Gustafsson, the well-known aquarell-painter and harbour master in Rödhamn. On the picture, she is delivering her freshly baked breakfast bread.
Dinner was freshly smoked salmon and a few glasses of Riesling, Smilla got en extra dried pigs ear, her favourite snack.

On thursday, we continued to Mariehamns eastern guest harbour, to stay there over midsummer and until sunday, when Smilla and Hilkka plan to leave Sir Francis in favour of a Silja Line return trip to Sweden.
Temperatures are slowly rising by 2 degrees per day, and today, saturday, we have reached the 18 degree mark. Rain-clouds have been blown away and the sun is warming nicely from a blue sky.
Hopefully it will stay that way for same time!
